Clout and Influence

Fagus got his start working with the Democratic regulars - earning a key support role in the battle against the 49th Ward's independent movement - by working for then-Committeeman Lee Preston and as Chief of Staff to Mayor Richard M. Daley-appointed Alderman Bob Clarke. But after Clarke lost to Joseph Moore in 1991, and after Preston retired and turned over his job to Fagus in 1993, Fagus found himself without much of an organization. Soon after becoming committeeman, Fagus brokered a relationship where Fagus would represent the Regulars, but not oppose Moore, and Moore would control Fagus' organization. It's worked well for Fagus so far, as he has steadily risen in the county patronage ranks, and well for Moore as he effectively controls the 49th Ward Democratic organization.

As Committeeman, Fagus walks a fine line. He supports Moore and other members of "Team Jan" but is otherwise quiet in Democratic politics.

Employment and Electoral History

Fagus is the COO of the Cook County Cermak Health Services, the publicly operated health care facility for the Cook County Jail.
